This past weekend photographers Mike Malone, Geoff Johnson and Andrew Marinkovich hosted a workshop on how we flow here. We call it Fotoflo. In a never ending Malone and Company quest to multi-task Sam Carter attempts to create a new trend in headgear while lugging around the gear on shoot. We're not sure if the hat will catch on but we sure appreciate her keeping things light and fun on the set.

Sam and I were out west for a few days of shooting in Hastings. Our journey included a stop at Murphy's Wagon Wheel (a microbrewery that doesn't actually brew their own beer). Anyhow it was still a good time. Check out some of the behind-the-scenes.
Andrew Marinkovich and Sam Carter spent two days shooting lawn mowers in town. This was the only stunt shot we got. Matt attempts an Evil Knievel jump from the trailer to the back of the truck. He's safe, and pulled off the jump with no injuries. Thanks to the crew from the mowing company for putting in the time in the hot sun- and for all the cleaning that was done to keep the mowers looking great.

Let's just say it was a "once in a lifetime experience". From the mountains of San Ramon to the white sandy beaches of Santa Teresa, we saw it all. We traveled through the central part of the country all the way to the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. The mountains were covered in lush rain forests with amazing tropical birds, and three toed sloths. We stayed three nights at an Eco-lodge and culinary school called The Inn at Coyote Mountain. It was an amazingly relaxing retreat. It is nice to get away from technology every once in a while. We then headed off to our second destination. After driving for miles (on treacherous unpaved roads) in our 4x4 rental, and traveling across the ocean via car ferry, we arrived in Santa Teresa. This was a surfer's haven. Dreadlocks and ATV's! Here we stayed at Latitude 10° Jungle Beach Resort. This resort is another Eco-loge consisting of secluded bungalows right in the middle of the jungle and on the edge of a private beach. the water was amazingly warm and at night the howler monkeys were amazingly loud. The people we met were great as well. There is not enough time in the day to share all the experiences we had in just one short week! It was a vacation well worth the wait.
Here at Malone and Co. it is not unusual to put our equipment to the ultimate test and beyond. We are absolutely in love with our Magliner cart! It is truly every assistants companion. It can handle your heaviest load, walk you through the tightest situation, and it will keep going when you feel like quitting. Also, when your Magliner is feeling low, all it needs is a little pump. That's what I call low-maintanance! This friend is tried and true and has never let us down!
Our guys here at Malone & Co will do anything to get the shot they have invisioned in their minds. Nothing is off limits! This is a small glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes on a typical day with any one of our photographers. Life as an assistant is never dull!
