Dance in Black and Blue

As I inch closer to my 25th year as a photographer I still wake up each morning of a shoot antsy with anticipation for the day ahead. I'm excited to get another day of using my camera to see into other places and lives.
A few weeks ago while shooting up Winona, Minnesota for my good friends at Saint Mary's University I had to the opportunity to shoot a dance class. Click here to see a slideshow of the images.

What an interesting (even if unintentional) metaphor for the act of photography. The closest thing I could compare the feeling I get prior to shooting is performance. All of the synapses are firing like crazy because even though you may have rehearsed a hundred times, or taken hundreds of thousands images, each new moment/performance/shoot is a brand new opportunity to create.

Lovely images, by the way. I never think of duotoning...
